A Holistic Approach to Kindergarten Readiness
Enrichment Program (for 4 & 5-year-olds)
In addition to attending school three or five days per week, our 4- and 5-year-olds may enroll in a 45-minute directed enrichment activity time prior to the 9:30 a.m. arrival of the rest of the class.
This program is offered for children who need something more but are not completely ready or eligible for kindergarten. These students benefit from the extra individual or small group practice in a variety of subjects, including Fine Motor, Math Concepts, Pre-Reading (Literacy), and Writing.
Some parents choose this program for their 4- or 5-year-olds to help them adjust to the demands and expectations of a kindergarten schedule with five full days per week.
Licensing
Our school is licensed, and teachers are certified by the State of Connecticut’s Office of Early Childhood. We have two teachers present in all classes and an educational consultant available as a resource. Our preschool follows Connecticut Early Learning and Developmental Standards.
Jackie Shea
Director and Head Teacher
Meet Ms.Jackie!
This is Jackie’s first year as part of the EGCCNS staff. Her career in education started as a kindergarten special education teacher for the first four years, followed by eight wonderful years teaching an integrated special education preschool classroom. After taking time off to be at home with her own children, she transitioned to a role as a Developmental Therapist with the Connecticut Birth to Three System, where she supported infants, toddlers, and their families directly in their homes and communities. She holds a Bachelor’s in Elementary and Special Education and a Master’s in Special Education with a focus in Early Childhood and is certified in Early Childhood, Elementary and Special Education. Having spent the last two years volunteering at the preschool while her son was enrolled as a student, she fell in love with this program.
Some fun facts about Jackie:
• She loves biking and traveling with her husband and children. Whether at home or on frequent trips to Cape Cod, the family enjoys staying active together through hiking, kayaking, biking, and exploring the outdoors together. She also enjoys painting and reading!
• Jackie is an avid gardener who shares her space with four pampered chickens, who make for some fun and interesting stories she can’t wait to share with your children!
• She hiked at Sedona last year and with the help of a friendly family guiding, her family made it all the way up to the crack at Bell Rock!
Linda Finkbeiner
Teacher
Meet Ms. Linda!
This is Linda’s 5th year teaching at EGCCNS, and she is so excited to be a part of this community! She has worked as an education director at a functional neurology center, a general education teacher, and a special education tutor. She has degrees in English Literature and Curriculum Design & Instruction. Linda loves painting, reading, hiking, taking her dog to the park, and above all, spending her time with her husband and two children.
Some fun facts about Linda:
● Linda spent a season working at Glacier National Park in Montana. She hiked over 300 miles, came face to face with moose, and saw tons of (distant) grizzly bears, mountain goats, and marmots. She and her friend Katie won the three-legged race during their employee Olympics.
● Linda loves to cook – she has made exotic recipes from around the world, but her favorite thing to make is homemade chicken soup with sourdough bread. She’s spent years learning the tricks to a perfect bowl of soup, and is happy to share her recipe. Be warned: it’s a multi-day process!
● Linda has an older brother and a younger sister. They text each other jokes almost daily.
● Linda LOVES to garden. She plans her garden in the fall, orders seeds and starts growing in winter, plants in spring, tends all summer, and starts dreaming again as she puts her garden to bed in the fall. Harvesting her produce is fine, but it’s the process that she loves.
